Achille-Claude Debussy (French: 22 August 1862 – 25 March 1918) was a French composer. He is sometimes seen as the first Impressionist composer, although he vigorously rejected the term. He was among the most influential composers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Born to a family of modest means and little cultural involvement, Debussy showed enough musical talent to be admitted at the age of ten to France's leading music college, the Conservatoire de Paris. He originally studied the piano, but found his vocation in innovative composition, despite the disapproval of the Conservatoire's conservative professors. He took many years to develop his mature style, and was nearly 40 when he achieved international fame in 1902 with the only opera he completed, Pelléas et Mélisande.

クロード・アシル・ドビュッシー（Claude Achille Debussy, 1862年8月22日 - 1918年3月25日）は、フランスの作曲家。長音階・短音階以外の旋法と、機能和声にとらわれない自由な和声法などを用いて独自の作曲を実行し、その伝統から外れた音階と半音階の用い方から19世紀後半から20世紀初頭にかけて最も影響力を持った作曲家である。ドビュッシーの音楽は、代表作『海』や『夜想曲』などにみられる特徴的な作曲技法から、「印象主義音楽（印象派）」と称されることもある。しかし、本人は印象主義音楽という概念に対して否定的であり、テクスト（詞）やテーマの選択は象徴派（象徴主義）からの影響が色濃い。
